The biggest occassion in the 2011 calendar year for our family is the wedding of one of our beloved nieces; Aziemah Hj Abdullah to Yussof Adam Flynn on the 27th February 2011 at Rizqun International Hotel.

Pantai Serasa Outing

I went to Pantai Serasa for a short photo outing with two of my old school buddies last Sunday, 3rd October. We were a bit late and could not really capture the beautiful colour of sun rise at the area. It was more a get together than a photo outing though but we enjoyed the trip. We intend to do more outings with more of our other old mates in the near future.

I still could not process the photos I took in RAW format as I am still having some problems with my software........... Here's one of the photos that I took in .jpg format. Although these dilapidated huts can be good photo subjects, I think they also spoilt the overall beauty of the area....... I hope the relevant authorities will remove these structures and not allow people to build any more of these huts around the area in the future.

Some of the Macro (or is it Micro ??) photos taken in my garden on Tuesday morning, 13th July while I was on "sick leave" after having one tooth extracted (after the crown came loose the day before) and my right cheek became swollen.... and it was the first time I've really been able to try out my Nikkor 105mm Micro lens since I bought it last year. I thought it was all worth it.... the bloody mouth, the swollen cheek and all.......

BRUNEI DARUSSALAM'S ENERGY DAY 2010

24th May has been designated Energy Day for Brunei Darussalam. Appropriately, the theme for this year's Energy Day is "VALUE OUR PRECIOUS ENERGY" or in Malay; "HARGAI TENAGA KITANI".

This year will see the launching by Yang Berhormat The Minister of Energy at the Prime Minister's office tomorrow, 24th May. The day will also see all petrol filling stations throughout the Country selling petroleum products at "commercial prices" without any subsidy. In a press interview on Thursday 20th May, representatives from the Energy Division and the Petroleum Unit explained that the objective of the initiative was to raise public awareness (on how much the Government is spending on subsidising these products for the public).

Other initiatives throughout the Energy Week will include Energy Forum, Energy Camps and a short sketch (drama) competition among Secondary schools.

Support the Energy Week by "Switching Off and Set" (SOS) on 24th May from 09.00am to 09.00pm and make your pledge here.

Leech Therapy

Tried the "Leech Spa" (Lintah) for the first time last month on my problematic right calf which has been giving me a lot of pain for some times.

The Leech treatment was said to be good for the treatment of ghout, asthma, high blood, diabetis, muscles pain, migraine, pimples, etc. Might be a scary experience for some people though..... but once you get used to these cold crawly creatures they are not really that scary....

Took some photos of a customer receiving "botox" treatment for pimples at the Spa's premises at Chuchu Plaza, Telanai .....

The leeches were given "wet blankets" to keep them moist so they can continue doing their task (of sucking blood) ...

The tiny creatures became so big after completing their "blood sucking" task and just fall off your skin.....

My Country's 26th National Day

Tomorrow, 23rd February 2010, Brunei Darussalam "the Abode of Peace" celebrates its 26th full independence.

Congratulations to His Majesty The Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, His Majesty's Government and all the people of the Country on this upcoming celebrations. May our beloved Brunei Darussalam continue to prosper and stay peaceful forever for our future generations.

Masjid SOAS in Terengganu, Malaysia

Visited the "Taman Tamaddun Islam" (Edutainment Park) in Terengganu, Malaysia on 21st Dec. 2009 while holidaying with my family in Kelantan, Terengganu, Melaka and KL. One of the monuments among the 21 monuments in the Park is Brunei's Masjid Sultan Omarali Saifuddin. The details of all the mini Masjids were very impressive. We actually visited the Park in March 2009 but was very unlucky because, as it was a Tuesday, the Park was closed.

These are some photos of the actions captured from the big drain behind our house. All along I thought that frogs only catch their preys with their long tongues but these frogs show some intelligence, climbing up dead branches or floating on leaves waiting for their unfortunate preys to pass by......... Unfortunately I could not get a single picture of the frog leaping and catching the dragonfly as the action was too fast for me..........

Tribute to the Braves

Just to pay my tribute and appreciations to the brave men and women of the Brunei Fire Services and the Royal Brunei Air Force for their relentless and tireless efforts to control and put out the forest fires during the dry season in this country last month. They worked all round the clock almost everyday………..

These pictures were taken sometimes last month in their efforts to control the forest fire that broke out around our neighborhood in Rimba.

Le' Stadium Restaurant Quiz Winner

Yesterday afternoon saw the prize presentation to the winner of the Le' Stadium Restaurant (count the red balls) quiz. The ceremony took place at the Restaurant's premises in Rimba (across the road to De Rimba supermarket). Guess who the winner is........

My daughter (in blue below) receiving the $1,000 prize........ not a bad return for being sort of regular customers since the opening of the Restaurant........

The Restaurant has a good ambience, offering excellent menu selections........ among our favourites being the Frosted Orange, Mushroom Cappuccino soup and Dory fish.......

Suzy's wedding

One of our nieces, Dk. Suzy's wedding to Ak. Saifullah on the 9th Nov was the highlights for our family this year. I was also an "unofficial" photographer during the wedding...... my apologies to the newly weds though because I've not had the time yet to sort out the photos...... May Allah blessed the two of you and that the marriage will last forever in full harmony....

The not so attractive side of BSB.......

It has been quite a while since I last updated this blog. A lot had been happening family wise but not much to blog about.......

The water village where I was born and grew up in (and a lot of other areas in the water villages in BSB) had turned into something like a slump area lately with the arrival of "outsiders" into the villages, taking over houses from the original occupants who had mostly moved on to land. These pictures below were taken last Monday, 8th Dec, the morning of Eid ul-Adha. This was just less than 1 kilometer west side of the SOAS Mosque......... Not something that we would be proud of to show to arriving tourists........ I hope the Authority will do something about this situation.....

Took my family to visit the Brunei International Halal Food Products Expo 2008 at the International Convention Centre this morning, the final day of the Expo. Among other things, we bought some mushrooms (still in their plastic 'planters') partly because my son wanted to continue growing the mushrooms and partly because I wanted to take photos of them.......well, here are some of the photos I took of the mushrooms in my makeshift 'studio' using window light only and a polystyrene sheet as a reflector......

Tried out a Sigma DC 18-200mm 3.5-6.3 HSM lens for some close up photos around my garden. Here are some of the results............I think I still need a Nikkor Micro lens though.......(I hope the missus get the hint......!!)

Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque

Had been rather busy in the last month that I could not do any update on this blog, and also a pity that I did not manage to take even a single photo of His Majesty's 62nd Birthday celebrations...........

Here are some photos I took recently of the magnificient Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque in Kampung Kiarong, a few kilometers from the capital.

The Mosque was built to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the accession to the throne of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam. The brainchild of His Majesty, it is considered as one of the grandest mosque in the region and was officially opened on the 14th of July 1994.

BSB Waterfront

Here are some of the pictures I took around the Bandar Seri Begawan waterfront along the Brunei River just before the heavy rain in the evening of 8th June. Met some people I know, and one of them was Hj Kool of PB who honked his BMW horn while I was crossing the bridge near the "Gerai".... I was hoping that nobody would recognise me.....but I forgot to take my cap along to disguise myself as a tourist....... It was a fruitful 1 hour photo session though, with 2 rainbows over the water village on the other side of the river, beautiful rain clouds above and water taxis plying the river.....

Photos of the Monument commemorating His Majesty's 60th Birthday..... the cloud got darker and a few minutes later the rain came. Had to run back to my car....

Sunset at Jerudong Beach

Dropped by Jerudong Beach after sending my son to his tuition school last Tuesday at around 6pm and was stuck to this one spot taking photos..........there was so much photo opportunities with the beautiful sunset, artisan fishermen coming in and going out to sea and these young men doing rod fishing. A pity I had only a short time..........

All in a day's work......

The images of the beautiful Masjid Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin (SOAS) are very dear to my heart as I grew up around the Mosque and this used to be the images that greeted us every day of my growing up life in Kampung Limbongan.......day and night.... We passed by the mosque everyday, played around the area and chased after loose kites, and also used to catch crabs using Bintur around the lagoon of the mosque...... I went to the area specifically to take these photos of the mosque one evening .... It really reminded me of the old memories and old friends.
